In our blog post last week we talked about fresh cabinet trends for the coming year (2016 Kitchen Cabinet Trends). One of the trends we discussed was about homeowners choosing to mix up their neutrals and use white, grey, cream, and even black in one kitchen. But while neutrals are hot, the kitchen also continues to be a key place to use color, so this week we will explore kitchen cabinet color trends.
You can incorporate color in many different ways. From just a few pops of color mixed with warm neutrals, to a highlight bank of pale blue cabinets, there is something that will appeal to everyone. Here are some of our favorite cabinet color trends that will still look good years from now:
White cabinets have been a popular classic for years, but are extra hot right now because they are so versatile. Pair white cabinets with other neutrals, like grey countertops, stainless appliances, and black accents for a traditional yet modern look that is being referred to as a “transitional” look for the kitchen. Or pair white shaker cabinets with rustic knobs and a warm color on the wall for more of a farmhouse look.
Grey is the new white. Grey continues to be a huge color story in kitchens for 2016. Grey cabinets look amazing with stainless steel, and black or white accents. Use grey in any aspect of your kitchen to freshen it up and bring it into the 21st century – cabinets, countertops, wall color, etc.. Grey works just as well with crisp white accents as it does with color.
A light or greyish blue color is a fun cabinet color option that is quickly gaining in popularity and looks beautiful on a shaker style cabinet. You can create this same style with a pale green or yellow cabinet for a fresh update to a farmhouse kitchen. You can do an entire kitchen in one of these colors or just one bank of cabinets as an accent color.
Black cabinets have been popping up all over the place, and are very popular with the modern/minimilist crowd. But they are also being used in traditional and farmhouse kitchens. Another big trend is the black and white kitchen – many people are mixing black cabinets with white countertops, and stainless appliances.
